That’s all you have to do!

Or, in some traditions, you don’t even burn the paper. In some practices, you fold the paper a certain way and then seal it with wax. You can glue or tie it together with a thread or twine without wax.

You can also bury it in the ground anywhere, in a natural body of water, a plant pot, a spell jar, or a box in a dark room!

Petitions can harm someone, bring money and luck, bring protection, attract someone to you, heal someone, or even control people! Petitions and prayers are the same, expressed through spoken, written, or thoughts.

This is a straightforward and versatile spell that anyone can do! The essential component of this spell, and any spell casting, is your mind.

As an analogy, imagine your mind as a beacon that shoots a bright light into the “spell-casting realm.” That bright light is the spell’s desire, intention, and manifestation.

The “spell-casting realm” is our subconscious mind, or as some people know it, the spirit realm or the astral world. This is why it’s essential to have positive thoughts to produce positive energy in our subconscious minds.

Magical inscriptions on walls, papyrus, books, and paper have been a part of the ancient craft since humans could write.

An example of ancient writing in magic spells is the Chinese fulu talismans. Instructions to spirits to carry out tasks cast spells, and even exorcisms were written on this magical piece of paper.

In astrological magic (and most occult practices), making talismans is a laborious process, and at times it’s easier to get professional help.

Another practitioner dedicated to the craft will usually have the tools needed to create metal, gold, silver, and wooden talismans if one doesn’t have access to it.

However, a talisman can be made with humble tools like paper and ink.

Petitions, or name papers, are a form of talismans. Talismans can be worn and carried, and petitions can also be carried on a person.

Magical petitions come up in many different branches and belief systems system of magic. Like in more “new” strains of occultism and mentalism, Law of Attraction, scripting is a name for petitions.

Scripting is the idea that writing your desires (such as a desired person, desired life, desired situation, etc.) a certain amount of times, with specific detail, or in a specific format will manifest the desire in the physical world. This is the same spell-casting as writing magical petitions!

Additionally, scripting comes in many different forms. We have an in-depth article talking a whole lot about scripting methods for the law of attraction and other spells. These methods all work immediately, especially when attracting genuine love.

Some law of attraction scripting methods include the “?x? method” — write your desire for three, five, ten, fifteen, or more times for three-five, ten, fifteen, or more days.

The diary method — write your desire as if you recall a memory or day. Were you manifesting a new job? Write in your journal about the job interview and how happy you felt you got the job.

Writing affirmations — whether physically or digitally, write positive affirmations. Try to write simple affirmations and clear affirmations. Then write each in the past and present tense, then in the first, second, and third person perspectives. These affirmations can then be turned into your Subliminals! Record these affirmations with your voice or a text-to-speech, save them to any device, and listen when relaxed or overnight while you sleep.

The detailed writing method is similar to affirmations, and the diary method, except you write out exactly what you want in the past and present tense. Who To Petition To?

Traditionally, a spell caster will petition their ancestors and the Creator’s spirit to aid them in sending and completing their spell casting. But, depending on tradition, culture, belief system, specific situation, and personal preference, someone can petition whoever they choose.

An important note: petitioning deities, saints, specific entities, and even ancestors can require an offering once the task is completed. This differs by entity, tradition, and intuition. Make sure to research how you can give an offering and what offering they require.

Deities

These include “God,” whether an Abrahamic god or of any other culture and religion. Sometimes people petition for an Absolute creator they believe in when they don’t have a very personified idea of God. Whoever or whatever you believe to be a god/dess is who you can petition.

Entities

For example, saints and collective spirits are under this category. By collective spirits, I mean spirits like La Madama, the IntranquilIntraquil spirit, or others that are held up by cultural, folk, regional, and emotional lore.

Spirit guides are another entity you can connect with through petition, asking for their help carrying out a task.

Saints that often receive petitions are those like St. Expedite, who we have a whole article about! Others like St. Valentine, St. Martha, and St. Helena are often used to write petitions. In some American folk traditions, especially African-American folk traditions, there are blends of Catholicism and Traditional African Religions from Congo and Ifa faiths.

And other entities like angels, archangels, demons, personal daimons, servitors, tulpas, and more are under this category.

Ancestors

But writing a petition to ancestors is a great way to get started in ancestor veneration. If you already have a strong relationship with your ancestors, writing a petition to your ancestors to help you is a powerful aid.

Highest Self or the Universe Itself

Lastly, if you aren’t interested in writing to any of the above (or you don’t have strong relations with them or don’t believe in them), you can always petition yourself or the Universe. You have your power, your magic, and your divine will. Connecting to and contacting your Highest Self to carry out your will is trusting in yourself that your magic and energy will complete its task.

Timing the Petition

As a general rule of thumb, time your rituals based on the day and hour, certain moon phases, or based on what your entity or deity requires.

So, let’s say you’ve petitioned a saint, and they require a nine-day candle-burning ritual. Time the start of your ritual on a day corresponding to the task or/or on a specific moon phase and for example, casting a spell on the new moon or the night of the full moon!

How To Perform a Petition Ritual

We’ll give you two ways to cast love spells with petitions. Both require the same bare minimum needed!

Bare Minimum Needed:

• Paper from a brown lunch bag (or any paper available)
• Permanent marker (or pen), red pen, or
• A place to bury it or a lighter to burn it
• Fire safe or fireproof bowl if burning it

Optional:

• Herbs for love: lavender, rose petals, wild cherry bark, hibiscus
• Herbs for money: cinquefoil, peppercorns, cinnamon, clove
• Anointing oil of choice (money oil, Come to Me oil, an essential oil of choice)
• Candle of choice (red candle or a pink candle for love, black for protection, white candle for cleansing)
• Incense (Myrrh for attraction, lemongrass for luck, lavender for healing and peace)
• Physical photo of your love interest, a sketch of your targeted person, or a digital photo of your love interest
• Thread of any kind (red ribbon for love, green ribbon for money and power)

We talk about correspondences a lot, and that’s what you add to spells to give them extra “oomph”!

As stated above, timing, colors, herbs, oils, and incense with specific properties for healing, love, money, prosperity, etc., all add to your belief and the spell.

Choose what works best for you and your life, as magic is about accessibility!

Set the Mood

• Adjust the lighting: lights off, dim, or clear natural lighting from the sun.
• Cleanse and consecrate the bay leaf, writing tools, and space to remove negative energy.
• Tingle your senses with smells — incense.
• Tingle your senses with music — make the music yourself by chanting, humming, singing your spell, or playing your chosen music.
• Dance and move your body! Allow the feeling and vibrations to move through you freely, moving in any way you build up energy. This allows positive and loving energy to build up, clearing away negative energy.

Again, building our mental and emotional state in these moments is critical. To do that, you also need to set the environment’s mood.

Setting the mood is a tool for the mind. This help breaks down our inhibitions, our shyness, and our doubts.

Having physical correspondence allows us to focus on building our energy and then directing our energy. Especially when casting magic love spells.

It makes our subconscious mind, where it’s believed a lot of our energy and magic is connected to, easily accessible to us, which is essential for any manifestation and magic.

Intentions

This is going to be a short section but an imperative section.

It is essential to have clear and firm intentions. Using the correct period, you must know what you want for any spell to work, especially in love magic. When you cast the spell, you must have that intention so firm in your mind that it might as well be a part of you!

Murky or vague intentions will reflect the uncertainty and obscurity within you about the spell you’re casting and if it is something you want.

You are powerful, and when you use your mind, body, and spirit (emotions/energy) in harmony, you’ll find your magic working fast and amazingly.

Performing the Ritual

Since this ritual can also include a candle burn, this note is always important:

Always have water or something to extinguish the flame or an open window for ventilation when dealing with fire. Never leave any flame unattended.

Once you feel ready to begin, take about thirty seconds to do deep breathing. Deep, long, and slowly inhale. Deep, long, and slowly exhale.

Once you feel some tingles throughout your body (this physical feeling is the increased energy flow), grab your petition paper and tear the paper into a large enough square. The paper doesn’t have to be a perfect square or clean tears. Just put energy, intent, and respect into tearing the paper.

Next, take your writing tool and write your desired person’s name seven times a row. In traditions like Conjure (Hoodoo), things are typically done with odd numbers. So, 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. Feel free also to use other numerology as well. If you know their life number or soul urge number, you can write their name on that number amount of times. Same for yourself.

Turn the paper clockwise towards you once. The desired person’s name should be vertical. Turning clockwise and towards you is symbolic of attracting positive energy to you.

Now, please write your name over their name. Your name should be crossing their name. This is because you will have the upper hand in the relationship, so you will “dominate” them by your name over theirs.

Turn the paper clockwise towards you again.

Now, in a circle around the names, write your intent or desire. e.g., “Say you love me,” “Come to me,” or “Think of me.” You can be as detailed or not detailed as you want.

Tip: use a pen or marker with a color corresponding to your intent. A red pen for your love desires. Or a red marker.

Do not lift the pen between letters and words. You want to write your intent without lifting the pen in a circle around the names. It’ll look like swirly cursive in an extensive process. It’s essential to keep your concentration and intent while doing this and throughout the whole ritual.

Tip: write your intention or desire in the past or present tense. The present tense is always best, and the past tense is for believing it has already happened. Writing your passion in the future tense will make it seem as if you don’t want it. Past and present tense only.

Next, fold the paper toward you three times. When you attract something towards you, you fold it in your direction. When removing something or doing anything you don’t want on or towards you, you fold it away from you.

Since this is a simple ritual, burn the love spell paper with a lighter, match, or from your stove. You can choose to collect the ashes if you wish.

There’s another option not to burn the petition paper, but instead, bury the petition in the earth (sand, river, dirt, forest, your backyard), in a jar (honey jar or potion jar), or a plant’s pot.

And that’s it! That’s the ritual!

But there are more things you can do to add power to the ritual. Candles.

You can combine your petition with candle magick, one of the oldest forms of magic. Especially in the rootwork and Conjure (Hoodoo) tradition, candles are a required and necessary part of the practice.

When it comes to using candles, you can use candles like a red candle or a pink candle for your love spells. A white candle also works as white is understood as a “universal” color to match everything. But, again, if you don’t have specific candle colors available, any color will do for your love spells.

The candle’s purpose is that the flame is a portal to the spirit world. It acts as a medium of your divine will, power; your connection to any spirits; your intent itself working.

Burn the petition in the candle’s flame, then let the candle burn thoroughly. Or, let the candle burn and then seal the petition with the wax from the candle by letting the wax drip onto the petition. Bury it in a jar, a box, the earth, or in a dark place.

Other optional things to spice up your love spell would be adding personal items such as hair, skin, or nails into your petition before closing it—also, honey, anointing oils, herbs, powders, or anything necessary. Then burn the petition. Or close the petition with wax or with a thread, red thread.

If you have the tools, dress your candle as well. Dress it in oil, herbs, powders, personal items like hair or nails (especially of your target), and more!

You can do much more with a petition, including adding your petition to a gris-gris or mojo bag.

Performing the PETITION BURNING LOVE SPELL (OR FOR WHATEVER PURPOSE SPELL) — “too long; didn’t read” version.

• Tear your paper with your hands in a square big enough to write your desire.
• Write your desired person’s name seven times in a row
• Turn the paper clockwise towards you; turn it once. Their name should be, now vertical
• Write your name over their name, so your name will be crossing it
• Turn the paper clockwise towards you again
• In a circle around the names, write your intent or desire WITHOUT lifting the pen.
• Fold the paper towards you three times.
• Burn the paper with the flame of candles, a match, a lighter, or the stove

One Tip …

You can draw symbols all over the petition.

You can draw a love sigil, a love deity, or an entity seal. Draw the symbol of Venus. You can remove any symbols that connect with you and your intent.

Afterward & Final Thoughts

It’s possible that a short period after your love magic petition burning ritual, you’ll begin to see the manifestation of your desires in your dreams. If you cast these magic spells to attract money, you might see an open cash register or someone handing you money.

Performing this love spell on a new moon or full moon night

You’ll also begin to see these things in real life. You might start slow by finding more change or cash on the ground, randomly getting small amounts from some people.

After the ritual, ensure your thoughts and intentions have been set to accept and follow up on these offers. If you see change on the ground that doesn’t belong to anyone else, pick it up!

This is a sign of synchronicity from the Universe, and ignoring it still allows you to be stuck outside the “Gratitude Frequency.”
